In the late 1960s Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa was the epicenter of one of the greatest spiritual revivals in American history that would later be called the “Jesus Movement.” Its pastor, Chuck Smith, aka “Papa Chuck,” considered by many “the father of the Jesus Movement,” welcomed the hippie counterculture into his church, and the rest is history.

Calvary Chapel had a huge influence on modern day Christianity by birthing contemporary Christian music and worship as well as creating a more informal church atmosphere. Built on “simply teaching the Word of God simply,” verse by verse, chapter by chapter, from Genesis to Revelation, the “Calvary Chapel Movement” has spread nationally and internationally, counting over 2,000 Calvary Chapel style churches worldwide. This documentary explores the history of Calvary Chapel and its impact on Christianity as well as the life of Chuck Smith, told in his own words.

“I didn’t want to direct the Holy Spirit, I just wanted to find out how the Holy Spirit was moving and get in the boat and move with him.” -Chuck Smith
